Lanka, Commonwealth forge stronger ties in key sectors at high-level London meeting

Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Nimal Senadheera, met with Commonwealth Secretary-General, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, at Marlborough House yesterday to discuss ongoing collaboration and shared priorities.

The meeting focused on strengthening the partnership between Sri Lanka and the Commonwealth across several key areas, including climate action, education, electoral support, trade and investment, and debt management.

Secretary-General Botchwey congratulated High Commissioner Senadheera on his recent appointment and commended Sri Lanka’s active engagement with the Commonwealth. She reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to delivering tangible benefits for the citizens of its member states.

High Commissioner Senadheera, in turn, expressed his gratitude for the Commonwealth’s continued support to Sri Lanka, highlighting initiatives such as the Climate Finance Access Hub and the Commonwealth of Learning as particularly valuable.Both parties underscored their commitment to deepening cooperation and advancing shared goals in the years ahead.
