A lecture entitled “ENCOUNTER WITH ALIENS FROM STONE-AGE TO SPACE-AGE” will be jointly hosted in Colombo by the National Academy of Sciences of Sri Lanka (NASSL) and the Sri Lanka Association for the Advancement of Science (SLAAS) on Monday, July 21.
The event will commence at 5:00pm with Prof. Wickremasinghe as keynote speaker, He received his early education at Royal College, Colombo, and at the University of Colombo which awarded him a First Class Honours Degree in Mathematics. He thereafter received a Commonwealth scholarship to Trinity College, Cambridge where he was awarded that university’s highest doctorate for science, the ScD.
The author of many books relating to Astrophysics and Astrobiology, he is internationally known as an expert on interstellar material and the origins of life.
He was a UNDP Consultant and Advisor to the President of Sri Lanka in 1982-84, and played a key role in the setting up of the Institute of Fundamental Studies in Sri Lanka.
Jointly with the late Sir Fred Hoyle he was awarded the International Dag Hammarskjold Gold Medal for Science in 1986.
