The first ever wax museum of Sri Lanka, housed in the Ehelepola Walawwa, on Raja Veediya, Kandy, will be opened today (17) by President Anura Kumara Dissanayaka.
The home of Ehelepola Adikaram, whose family was brutally killed by the last King of Kandy, Sri Vikrama Rajasinha, was used for several purposes during the British rule, and by the Sri Lanka government, before it was handed over to the Sri Dalada Maligawa.
The Wax Museum is the brain-child of the Diyawadana Nilame of the Sri Dalada Maligawa, Pradeep Nilanga Dela, who turned the former walawwa into another historical building of a rare museum by eminent experts in the art of sculpting human bodies out of wax.
The life-size figures include those of the family of Ehelepola Adikaram and King Sri Vickrama Rajasinha. The museum will be opened for the public after its opening by the President.
