A delegation from the Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC) of Sri Lanka recently visited the National Defence Studies Institute (NDSI) of Thailand. The visit took place on the sidelines of the study tour meant to enhance bilateral defence cooperation and strategic dialogue between Sri Lanka and Thailand.
Sri Lankan Ambassador in Thailand and Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the UNESCAP, Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, accompanied the Lankan military delegation when the latter paid a courtesy call on Commanding General Pongtep Gaewchaiyo of the National Defence Studies Institute (NDSI) of Thailand.
The Sri Lankan mission in Thailand issued the following statement: “During the visit, a bilateral discussion was held between the Ambassador and Permanent Representative Wijanthi Edirisinghe and Commanding General Pongtep Gaewchaiyo with the participation of Head of the Sri Lankan Defence Delegation, Captain S.K. Vidanage focusing on strengthening defence cooperation, promoting mutual understanding, and exploring opportunities for enhanced military exchange programmes between the two countries.
Commanding General Pongtep Gaewchaiyo provided a detailed briefing on the recent developments and also highlighted the significance of regional cooperation and confidence-building measures in ensuring long-term stability and security.
The 23-member defence delegation, comprising officials from the Tri Forces and three foreign delegates from Bangladesh and Nepal, engaged with the officials of the NDSI during a presentation on regional bilateral security and strategic issues.
This visit underscored the long-standing and friendly relations between Sri Lanka and Thailand, and reaffirmed the commitment of both nations to strengthen their collaboration in the field of defence and security through continued engagement and partnership.
