Govt. to amend Buddhist Temporalities Ordinance

The government had initiated a process to amend the Buddhist Temporalities Ordinance to bring it in line with present and future needs, Deputy Minister of Buddha Sasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs Gamagedara Disanayake said.

He said several parties, including Basnayake Nilames, had already submitted proposals on amending the law, enacted in 1931.

The Deputy Minister added that proposals had also been sought from the Maha Nayaka Theras, devala custodians, and other stakeholders on revising the 95-year-old statute.
