A head-on collision involving a van carrying schoolchildren and a tipper truck loaded with sand in the Kuliyapitiya police area killed the 64-year-old driver of the van and two children, aged 12 and 13.
Police said that 13 children with varying injuries were admitted to the Kupiyapitiya and Kurunegala hospitals. Sources said that the accident occurred near Wilapola bridge at Pallewela, Kuliyapitiya.
Police arrested the driver of the tipper truck.
