The Ambalanthota Police found a modern firearm in the possession of a person who was acting in a suspicious manner in the Poliyarwatta area, in Ambalanthota, on Thursday (17) evening.
The firearm, manufactured in Turkey, was sans its magazine.
On questioning the suspect, a resident of Weligama, the police took four more persons into custody. Two of them are residents of Pahala Beragama, while the other two are residents of Thissamaharama and Ranna.
The suspects, together with the firearm, were to be produced before the Hambantota Magistrate’s Court.
