High Commissioner Kana Kananathan has officially announced that Sri Lanka has been removed from Tanzania’s referral visa list, a significant development resulting from dedicated diplomatic efforts by Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the High Commission in Kenya. This achievement follows extensive high-level discussions with the Tanzanian government and marks the end of a policy that has been in effect for over two decades, requiring Sri Lankans to undergo a lengthy visa approval process to enter Tanzania.
This important breakthrough now allows Sri Lankans to apply for standard visas online, bypassing the additional procedures and long waiting periods that were previously necessary. The change is expected to greatly simplify travel arrangements, making it more straightforward and convenient for Sri Lankans visiting Tanzania for business, tourism, or other purposes.
High Commissioner Kananathan expressed his gratitude to the Government of Tanzania for this favourable decision, emphasising that it underscores the strong and growing partnership between Sri Lanka and Tanzania. He reiterated the commitment of the Sri Lankan government to continue fostering and enhancing these bilateral relations.
Kananathan also urged all Sri Lankans to make the most of this opportunity.
“This milestone represents not only a practical improvement for travelers but also a reaffirmation of the mutual respect and cooperation between the two nations,” he said.
