National People’s Power (NPP) Presidential Candidate Anura Kumara Dissanayaka has reiterated that some parameters set by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) are not disadvantageous to Sri Lanka.
Speaking at a business community conference in Colombo on Tuesday (3), Dissanayaka affirmed that an NPP administration would uphold the current agreement with the IMF.
He said, “Currently, all international relations of the country, including bilateral and multilateral agreements, are integrated with the IMF. This means the entire future programme of the country is aligned with the IMF.”
Dissanayaka emphasised that attempting to withdraw unilaterally from the IMF programme would be a failure to fulfil national responsibilities. “We guarantee that we have no intention of unilaterally withdrawing from the IMF,” he assured.
He noted that the IMF has set several parameters, including maintaining a primary account balance of 2.3 per cent next year and a debt ratio of 98 per cent by 2032. “These targets are not harmful. Achieving them is a reasonable economic goal, regardless of who establishes it,” he added.
