The Sri Lanka Muslim Congress has condemned the recent killing of the Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.
The following is the text of statement issued by SLMC leader Rauff Hakeem: “The Sri Lanka Muslim Congress condemn the killing of the Hezbollah Chief Hassan Nasrallah killed in an Israeli airstrike on the Lebanese capital, Beirut’s southern suburb, Dahiyeh, on Friday. While conveying our condolences to the martyred Nasrallah, his family and his comrades, we also strongly call upon Israel to stop its bombardment of Lebanon. We deeply regret that Israel has also begun to target Lebanon where 700 people have already been killed, under Israeli attacks. The death of Nasrallah is marked with more worrisome consequences for not only Palestine and Lebanon but also for the entire Middle East, plunging the region into a deeper level of violence.
Hezbollah Chief Nasrallah and his many martyred predecessors’ role in freeing Gaza as a voluntary movement, embracing martyrdom for the cause of Palestine has sought global acclaim in the face of ongoing Israeli aggression in Palestine. In the face of war crimes and increasing occupation in the region, it is inevitable that resistance movements, such as the Hamas, would continue to fight their cause as long as Israel rages its war against them. This no doubt will cause an immense threat to the entire region.
We continue to stand by our strong support for the cause of Palestine and its beleaguered, dead and dying people in the face of war crimes unleashed on them by Israel.”
