The police headquarters yesterday (12) said that there was absolutely no basis for claims that a Military Intelligence operative had caused injuries to law enforcement officers during a protest outside Isurupaya, Battaramulla on Dec 02.
Police spokesman SSP Buddhika Manatunga told The Island that IGP had instructed the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) to find out whether any police officer had said something to that effect based on what the Talangama police told the Kaduwela Magistrate regarding the Dec 02 incident.
SSP Manatunga emphasised that so far there hadn’t been any information whatsoever regarding possible involvement of a Military Intelligence operative in the incident. The incident occurred on Dec 2, when a group of Development Officers attached to government schools, held a protest demanding permanent teacher appointments, clashed with the police. Injuries were caused to three officers by the use of a sharp objecct during the unrest.
Responding to another query, the police official said that the SIU would inquire into the claims made by a section of the media regarding the issue at hand
