The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) is considering submitting a No-Confidence Motion against Speaker Ashoka Ranwala, according to party sources.
“The SJB Parliamentary Group is set to meet tomorrow to discuss the matter, with the option of bringing a No-Confidence Motion against the Speaker under serious consideration,” sources stated.
Speaker Ranwala has recently been embroiled in controversy following reports that he has used a fraudulent doctoral title. Meanwhile, amidst increasing allegations regarding Speaker Ranwala’s academic qualifications, the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) has called on both Opposition and Government MPs to support the No-Confidence Motion.
“The mounting allegations concerning Ashoka Sapumal Ranwala’s academic credentials, coupled with his failure to address these concerns, are highly troubling. As Speaker, he heads the Constitutional Council, which oversees critical government appointments. A Speaker with a compromised reputation undermines the integrity of Parliament. We, the SLPP, urge all MPs, from both the Opposition and the Government, to support the No-Confidence Motion against Ashoka Sapumal Ranwala,” said SLPP General Secretary Sagara Kariyawasam.
