NPP secures post of Chairman, SJB Councillor elected Deputy Head
SJB threatens disciplinary action against its members
Top SJB spokesman Mujibur Rahuman, MP, yesterday (29) said that his party would take disciplinary action against those who had cooperated with the National People’s Power (NPP) at the election of Chairperson of the Norwood Pradeshiya Sabha, in the Nuwara Eliya District, on Friday (27).
“We won’t condone such actions of our elected councillors,” lawmaker Rahuman said, claiming that the NPP, in spite of its vow that it would never strike deals with others, was making clandestine arrangements to further its interests.
Asked whether the SJB councillors in the Norwood PS had consulted the party leadership, MP Rahuman stressed that the party was not involved in making that deal.
All five elected SJB councillors voted with the NPP, enabling it to take control of Norwood PS. The NPP nominee received 12 votes against the CWC candidate only seven. The NPP voted for the SJB’s nominee for the post of Deputy Chairman.Colombo District MP Rahuman said the SJB councillors had made private arrangements with the NPP.
