Assassin was to be disguised as a journalist
A plot to kill notorious underworld figure ‘Harak Kata’ has been foiled by the police. Investigations revealed a plan to kill him inside a courtroom, using a contract killer disguised as a journalist.
The Peliyagoda Crimes Division sources said that the notorious gang, led by Kehelbaddara Padme, had masterminded the abortive plot.
‘Gampaha Pas Deva,’ another criminal, under interrogation, divulged information about the plan.
In view of the plot, security was beefed up when Harak Kata was brought to court last week.
The probe is led by Chief Inspector Linton de Silva, under the supervision of Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police Sanjiva Dharmaratne, Deputy Inspector General Nishantha Soysa, and Crimes Division Director Rohan Olugala.
