The election to choose the next Diyawadana Nilame of the Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy will be held on or around 07 November, Commissioner General of Buddhist Affairs Gamini Senarathna announced yesterday.
The term of incumbent Diyawadana Nilame Pradeep Nilanga Dela expired earlier this month. He has since been reappointed in an acting capacity for three months pending the election.
Dela, first appointed in 2005, has twice been re-elected to the post, which carries a 10-year term.
