Road accidents: 1,960 deaths so far this year

About 1,960 people have died in road accidents in Sri Lanka so far in 2025, according to Police Headquarters. About 1,843 fatal accidents were reported during that period.

In addition, 3,708 serious road accidents have occurred. The authorities noted that on average, seven people died a day in fatal road accidents across the country.

Police Headquarters urged motorists to exercise caution and adhere to traffic regulations to reduce the growing number of road fatalities.
