Sports anti-doping law amendments listed for debate in Parliament

Parliament is set to convene from Tuesday, October 7 to Friday, 10 October, with the Second Reading of the Convention against Doping in Sport (Amendment) Bill scheduled for a full-day debate on Tuesday, Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne announced.

Secretary General of Parliament Kushani Rohanadeera said the parliamentary business for the week had been finalised at a Committee on Parliamentary Business meeting on Thursday (25). The anti-doping law amendments, aimed at strengthening regulations and enforcement in Sri Lanka’s sports sector, are expected to dominate Tuesday’s proceedings from 11.30 am to 5 pm

Other highlights of the week include debates on the Supplementary Estimate of the Ministry of Transport, Highways, Ports and Civil Aviation on Wednesday, and an Adjournment Debate by the Opposition on Thursday, both spanning morning and afternoon sessions. Friday will feature eight Private Members’ Motions for debate, followed by an Opposition motion at Adjournment Time.

In addition, the Committee on Parliamentary Business will present two motions on amendments to Standing Orders related to the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) and the

Committee on Public Accounts (COPA) to Parliament on September 26 for approval before referral to the Committee on Standing Orders.Time for Questions for Oral Answers and Questions under Standing Order 27(2) has been allocated daily, ensuring members can seek clarifications from ministers on pressing issues.
