Investigations have revealed that suspect Sampath Manamperi, who is currently being questioned by the Peliyagoda Crimes Division, destroyed his mobile phone by placing it on a railway track in Dehiwala.
Manamperi disclosed this while being questioned by the Peliyagoda Crimes Division. He confessed that immediately after the commencement of police investigations, he had destroyed his mobile phone.
Manamperi has been arrested and detained over a consignment of chemicals which are believed to be used to manufacture crystal methamphetamine or ICE.
Police sources said the phone likely contained vital evidence relating to Manamperi’s dealings with politicians, underworld leaders, and details of numerous crimes allegedly committed by him.
Manamperi is accused of maintaining close links with underworld leaders including Kehelbaddara Padme and Backhoe Saman as well as involvement in several crimes, including mediating in the establishment of a drug manufacturing plant in the Southern Province.
