NGO lodges complaint with Bribery Commission against Nandana and Udaya for allegedly defaming Bribery DG

An organisation, calling itself the Citizens’ Power Against Bribery and Corruption, yesterday (03) lodged a complaint with the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC), requesting an inquiry against former MPs Nandana Gunathilaka and Udaya Gammanpila for allegedly defaming the Commission and its incumbent Director General, Ranga Dissanayake.

The complaint states that, under Section 118 of the Anti-Corruption Act No. 9 of 2023, the two former parliamentarians had insulted the present Director General in a manner that amounted to contempt of the Commission.

It alleged that former MP Nandana Gunathilaka had publicly identified the current Director General as a person who had previously served in the legal division of the JVP, and made those claims on social media and mainstream media platforms in recent days.

The complaint further noted that former MP Udaya Gammanpila had, during a social media interview, accused Ranga Dissanayake of unlawfully admitting his child to a school while serving as a judge, and also described him as someone linked to the JVP legal division.

These matters were formally raised in the complaint filed by Citizens’ Power Chairman Jamuni Kamantha Thushara.
