Government Ayurveda Medical Officers yesterday threatened to launch a countrywide agitation and strike unless their additional service allowance is restored.
The Joint Committee of Government Ayurveda Medical Officers’ Trade Unions said the allowance, introduced in 2024, had been abruptly discontinued and despite protests staged at the provincial level, there had been no response from the health authorities.
Committee member Dr. Chamal R. Kulathilaka told The Island that repeated requests for talks with the Minister of Health had gone unanswered. He charged that, unlike other trade unions, their union had not been given an opportunity for dialogue, or even a hearing.
