Citizens’ Power against Bribery and Corruption has lodged a complaint with the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) requesting an investigation into allegations that postal employees have violated the Anti-Corruption Act by obtaining overtime payments without recording their fingerprints.
According to the complaint submitted on 09 October, it has been alleged that certain postal workers fraudulently claimed overtime allowances by failing to log their attendance through fingerprint records. The complaint cites remarks made by Postmaster Ruwan Sathkumara during an event held at the
Haputale Post Office, on 03 October, to mark Postal Day, where he reportedly highlighted this fraudulent and inefficient conduct by some officials.
The complainant states that the actions of the employees constitute an offence under the Anti-Corruption Act No. 09 of 2023. It further requests that an investigation be conducted to recover the funds, unlawfully obtained, and to take legal action against those responsible.Chairman of Citizens’ Power, Jamuni Kamantha Thushara, told The Island that strict enforcement is necessary to curb such misuse of public funds.
