Acting on information provided by Sri Lanka, Nepal police have apprehended Pingpura Dewage Ishara Sewwandi, aka Ishara Sewwandi, in connection with the killing of Sanjeewa Kumara Samararatne, alias ‘Ganemulle Sanjeewa, inside Hulftsdorp Magistrate’s Court No 05 on 19 February, this year.
Police said that interrogation of several persons, extradited from Indonesia recently, had led to her arrest. The raiding party also arrested four Sri Lankans staying with her.
Investigations revealed that the 25-year-old woman smuggled in the weapon used by the assassin arrested on the same day at Palaviya.
Later he was identified as a soldier who had secured legal discharge from the Army.
Police said that the woman had been a close associate of Kehelbaddara Padme, who was among those extradited from Indonesia.
Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala told The Island that they had sought the assistance of Interpol after receiving information regarding her whereabouts.
Police Headquarters also announced a cash reward of Rs. 1.2 million for any individual providing accurate information leading to the arrest of Ishara Sewwandi, who remained at large after her involvement in the murder.
