The Jaffna Court Registrar was scheduled to visit Kopay Police yesterday (15) to supervise the removal of the station in terms of a court directive given by the Jaffna District court.
Following six years of legal proceedings, District Judge C. Satheeskaran ordered, on 27 June, that the police vacate the site and hand the land back to its owners.
The Kopay Police station was established 30 years ago. In 2019, nine landowners jointly filed a case at the Jaffna District Court seeking release of their lands, arguing that the property had been unlawfully seized during the war.
