The Health Ministry said that the construction of a 10-story professorial unit for the Provincial General Hospital in Badulla had been halted. The Ministry said so in a statement issued after Health Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa’s visit to Badulla over the weekend. Construction began in 2023 and the government allocated Rs 2.26 bn for the project, scheduled to be completed in 2025. Facilities such as surgical and medical wards, a cardiac treatment centre, and an accident and emergency care unit were to be included in the new building.
