GMOA claims 10,000 annual transfers on hold; blames Health Ministry

The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) has alleged that approximately 10,000 annual transfers of its members couldn’t be implemented so far this year due to malpractices.

GMOA Secretary Dr. Prabath Sugathadasa faulted the Health Ministry for what he called a still problematic situation. According to him, certain officials of the Health Ministry manipulated the existing transfer scheme, thereby worsening the crisis.

Dr. Sugathadasa said for want of a cohesive action plan to restore confidence among the medical officers, more officers were leaving the country.

The GMOA Secretary cited the disruption of the annual transfer scheme as one of the push factors.
