Ifham Nizam honoured at Presidential Environment Awards 2025

Senior journalist Ifham Nizam clinched the Bronze Award in the Media Sector – Individual Category (English Medium) at the recent Presidential Environment Awards 2025, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to environmental awareness and communication.

The annual awards ceremony, organised by the Central Environmental Authority (CEA) under the aegis of the Ministry of Environment, celebrates individuals and institutions that have demonstrated excellence in environmental conservation, sustainability, and public engagement.

The awards were presented by Environment Ministry Secretary K. R. Uduwawala, who commended the recipients for their vital role in promoting environmental stewardship and sustainable practices across sectors. Also in the picture CEA Chairman Senior Professor Tilak Hewawasam.

Nizam, a senior journalist attached to The Island newspaper, has consistently championed environmental reporting and policy dialogue, contributing significantly to public understanding of key ecological issues, from biodiversity and climate change to sustainable resource management.

The Presidential Environment Awards serve as the nation’s highest recognition for contributions toward building a greener and more sustainable Sri Lanka.
