JSC removes 20 officials including judges

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has removed 20 officials, including a High Court Judge, several District Judges, and Magistrates, following investigations into complaints of misconduct, JSC sources said yesterday.

According to sources, seven officials have been dismissed outright, while the others have been either suspended or placed on compulsory retirement.

The disciplinary action follows inquiries into a series of public complaints, some involving allegations of corruption. Those facing serious charges were subjected to formal disciplinary proceedings, and officers found guilty were removed from service.

The JSC action was based on the findings of the inquiries, sources said.

It is learnt that the High Court Judge, among those removed, is currently facing a separate inquiry before Supreme Court Justice Janak de Silva.

Officials nearing retirement, who were found guilty of lesser offences, were reportedly given the option to retire, sources said.
