The Meteorology Department has warned that a low-pressure system currently over the Bay of Bengal is likely to trigger increased rainfall across many parts of the country next week.
Director General Athula Karunanayake on Friday said the intensifying low-pressure trough was spreading towards the central Bay of Bengal region, with rainfall expected to rise on November 26, 27, and 28.
According to the department, eastern, northern, north-central, and Uva provinces may experience heavy cloud cover, with a likelihood of afternoon showers and thundershowers.
Central Sabaragamuwa and other areas could also see afternoon or nighttime rain, including localised thundershowers, as the system continues to exert a mild impact over the country, the Meteorology Department added.
