Kandy District SJB MP Chamindranee Kiriella yesterday accused a Deputy Minister of verbally harassing a female journalist, inside Parliament building, last week.
Raising the matter in the House, Kiriella said she witnessed the incident firsthand. “I was standing next to the journalist when it happened. She faced serious harassment and was visibly distressed. I regret that such an incident occurred,” she told Parliament, calling on the Prime Minister, who frequently speaks on such issues, to intervene.
Kiriella said the matter warranted the Prime Minister’s attention in the interest of all female MPs, both Government and Opposition.
She added that it was essential to draw the attention of the Prime Minister, for the sake of both Government and Opposition female MPs.
