The National People’s Power (NPP) government has reiterated that it wouldn’t accept external interference or mechanisms to investigate alleged human rights violations that occurred during the conflict with the LTTE.
The government’s position was stated by Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath in response to the report presented on Sri Lanka by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, at the commencement of the 60th session of the UN Human Rights Council in Genèva.
Minister Herath said that the government is committed to the accountability process only through a domestic mechanism.
The Geneva HRC, among a spate of recommendations, requested Sri Lanka to accept the accountability project meant to investigate alleged war crimes.
