CID to decide on Gammanpila arrest after inquiries, DSG tells court

The CID informed the Court of Appeal yesterday (12) that no decision has yet been made regarding the arrest of former Minister Udaya Gammanpila.

The writ petition filed by Gammanpila, seeking an order to prevent his arrest under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) Act, was taken up before the Court of Appeal yesterday morning.

Deputy Solicitor General Sudarshana de Silva, representing the CID, told the court that while investigations are still ongoing, no decision has been taken to arrest the petitioner at this stage. He, however, noted that a final decision will be made after the completion of inquiries.

Following submissions, the Court of Appeal adjourned further consideration of the petition until 17 September.
