Sri Lankan High Commissioner pays courtesy call on British Speaker

Sri Lankan High Commissioner in London, Nimal Senadheera, paid a courtesy call on Speaker of the House of Commons, Sir Lindsay Hoyle, at Westminster last week. In a warm and symbolic gesture marking the occasion, the Sri Lankan flag was flown outside the House of Commons, a rare honour reflecting the enduring ties between the two nations.

During the meeting, Speaker Sir Lindsay extended a cordial welcome to High Commissioner Senadheera. Their discussions centred on further strengthening Sri Lanka–UK bilateral relations, with emphasis on enhancing cooperation in key sectors, such as trade, investment, tourism, education, and people-to-people exchanges.

High Commissioner Senadheera also updated the Speaker on the continuing parliamentary collaboration between the two countries. He highlighted the recent visit to Sri Lanka by a cross-party UK parliamentary delegation, led by MP Yasmin Qureshi, as a testament to the growing engagement between the two legislatures.

Both parties concluded the meeting by reaffirming their shared commitment to deepening the longstanding friendship between Sri Lanka and the United Kingdom.

The High Commissioner was accompanied by Minister Counsellor Hiruni Rajapakse.
