Bribery Commission instructs heads of state outfits not to accept asset declarations submitted after deadline

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) has instructed all heads of state institutions not to accept annual or post-retirement asset and liability declarations submitted after the August 31 deadline.

In a circular issued on September 16 under the signature of its Director General, the Commission has said any declarations accepted after the deadline must be returned to the respective individuals.

The CIABOC has warned that officials and others required to file declarations who failed to do so by the stipulated date would face legal action under Section 90(5) of the Anti-Corruption Act No. 9 of 2023.

The law allows a Magistrate to impose a fine equivalent to the gross salary of the last 12 months of service, a jail term of up to one year, or both, on any person who fails to submit the required declaration by September 1.
