Navy signs pact with foreign maritime security firms

The Sri Lanka Navy on Friday (03) entered into an agreement with the local representatives of two foreign Private Maritime Security Companies (PMSCs) to facilitate the operations of Onboard Security Teams.

The agreement, signed at Navy Headquarters in Colombo, allows the storage and transportation of firearms, ammunition, and related equipment under naval supervision and protection. Logistical support will be provided by the respective local representatives of the PMSCs.

Following the vesting of authority through Gazette Extraordinary No. 2449/27 issued on 13 August 2025, President Ranil Wickremesinghe empowered the Navy to independently carry out maritime security operations — a move later communicated to Parliament.

The Navy said all revenue generated through the new arrangement will be credited to the Government Consolidated Fund.
