Two individuals, a member of the personal staff of former Deputy Minister of Housing and Construction Indika Bandaranayake, and a former officer of the Department of Fisheries, have been arrested by officials of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) for allegedly soliciting a bribe of Rs. 500,000 from a person by promising employment at the Sri Lanka Ports Authority, and accepting Rs. 240,000 as an advance payment.
The suspects, Indika Bandara Wijesundara, a member of the former Deputy Minister’s personal staff, and Ruppe Gedara Madusha Dilipana Jayasuriya, a former Fisheries Department official, were taken into custody after being questioned in connection with the bribery allegation.
The arrests were made around 2 pm on Thursday (23), and the suspects were scheduled to be produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
