Roaming wild jumbos driven into elephant reserve in Hambantota

Wildlife authorities with the help of members of the civil defence force, cultivation committees, Sri Lanka Airforce and the public conducted a successful elephant drive in the Hambantota District from Sunday (02) evening to the early hours on Monday (03).

The aim was to guide the wild elephants roaming in the areas coming under the purview of Divisional Secretariats of Hambantota, Ambalanthota and Sooriyawewa into the Managed Elephant Reserve in Hambantota.

The drive commenced from the vicinity of the Ridiyagama Safari Park and authorities said that around fifteen (15) elephants that were roaming the area had been driven away from the Madunagala village towards the MER.
