All arrangements have been made for the GCE A/L Examination to commence today (10), according to Examinations Commissioner General Indika Kumari Liyanage. She has requested candidates to arrive at their examination centres at least one hour before the commencement of the examination.
One inmate at the Welikada Prison, two patients at the National Hospital, and several candidates with special needs would be provided with necessary facilities to sit the examination, Liyanage said.
In case of an emergency, such as hospitalisation, candidates have been advised to contact the Department of Examinations for instructions.
The Commissioner General has urged students not to be misled by social media claims and to rely only on official announcements from the Department until the conclusion of the examination.
There are 340,525 candidates. About 245,521 of them are schoolchildren and 94,004 are private candidates. The examination will be held at 2,362 centres countrywide.
The examination will continue until 05 December. Candidates affected by emergencies or disasters may contact the Disaster Management Centre, via 117, or the Examinations Department hotline 1911 for assistance.
